It’s time to change the game.

Google Pixel and The Powerhouse Project have united to launch Pixel FC Academy - a landmark programme that will help young women break into the football media industry.

The Academy is part of a broader commitment from Google Pixel, The Powerhouse Project, and all of the Academy partners to help increase the coverage and visibility of the women’s game, as well as the number of women in the sports media industry, by creating a clear talent pathway for the next generation of creators.

The Pixel FC Academy programme will provide you with hands-on experience and expert training across all areas of modern sports media - from broadcast punditry and production, to print and online press, to creating viral social content.

Working alongside top professionals from leading organisations such as Arsenal FC, Liverpool FC, The FA, YouTube, 90Mins, and ITV Sport, applicants will gain insider insights, practical skills, and opportunities to learn from industry leaders, preparing Academy members for a successful career in the field.

This will include first-hand experiences with some of the country’s best players, from going pitchside at WSL and Lionesses fixtures, to interviewing stars from Arsenal FC Women and Liverpool FC Women.

Who we are looking for…

We’re looking for women who are aspiring to break into the football media and content creation industry.

You must have a passion for the women’s game, and be committed to developing your craft.

Note: Participants will likely appear in paid and organic marketing by The Powerhouse Project, Google Pixel, and our Partners, and we will may request to re-post and share your work across the above channels as part of the programme.

Recruitment Criteria:

  • Female creators only: to ensure we’re tackling the industry imbalance

  • Alignment with our values: Embodying the values of being Purposeful, Passionate, and Powerful

  • 18+ minimum age: there is no upper age limit, all are welcome

  • Maximum of 10,000 social followers per platform: we want people who are eager to break into the industry and have had some content experience, not fully established creators

  • Passion for women’s football: you can of course be interested in and cover the men’s game too, but need to be women’s football-focused

  • Commitment to the Program: Willing and available to attend all in-person events, and engage fully with the programme

Some final bits to know.

To complete this course you will be required to attend approximately ten in-person events between January - May 2025, across both weekdays and weekends.

The current confirmed dates for the programme are as follows:*

  • Monday 13 - Wednesday 15 January (London)

  • Monday 3 February (Manchester)

  • Friday 21 February (London)

  • Sunday 23 Mar (London)

  • Friday 9 May (London)

*Final dates are subject to change.

In addition to these dates, each member will take part in two additional workshops, one in March 2025 and one in April 2025 These will be hands-on sessions with Arsenal FC Women, Liverpool FC Women and the Lionesses - exact dates will be confirmed closer to the time dependent on team training schedules.

It is mandatory for Academy participants to attend all programme sessions, and by applying you acknowledge your attendance at all sessions.

We will provide fully funded travel and accommodation where necessary, to ensure all participants are able to attend at no cost.

  • To apply, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    Gender: The Academy is open exclusively to female creators, in line with our goal of promoting gender equity in sports media.

    Age: You must be 18 years or older. There is no upper age limit.

    Social Media Following: You should have a maximum of 10,000 followers per platform. The Academy is designed for emerging talents, not for already established creators.

    Passion for Women’s Football: A deep interest in women's football is essential. While you may also cover men’s football, the focus of your work should be women’s football.

    Values: You must embody our core values of being Purposeful, Passionate, and Powerful in your approach to sports media and content creation.

  • The goal of the Academy is to:

    Empower young women aspiring to work in the football media industry.

    Provide real-world experience and training in sports journalism, broadcast media, and social content creation.

    Increase the visibility and coverage of women’s football by creating a new wave of talented female creators.

    Create a supportive community and professional network for participants to launch their careers.

  • The programme runs for five months, from January to May 2025, featuring approximately 10 in-person events. This includes two hands-on experiences with players from top women’s teams like Arsenal FC Women, Liverpool FC Women, and the Lionesses.

  • As a participant, you will receive:

    Practical Training: Get hands-on experience in areas like broadcast punditry, online media, social content creation, and video production.

    Exclusive Opportunities: Work pitchside at WSL and Lionesses fixtures, interview football stars, and collaborate with top professionals in the sports media world.

    Industry Networking: Build relationships with professionals from leading organisations such as The FA, 90Min, YouTube, Arsenal FC, and Liverpool FC.

  • The application process consists of two stages:

    1. Initial Application: Fill out the application Form linked on our site and explain why you want to join Pixel FC Academy. Applications close on Monday 18th November 2024 at 5 pm.

    2. Video Application: If selected, you’ll be asked to submit a short video application between Monday 25th November - Wednesday 4th December 2024. This will be reviewed by a panel of industry experts.

  • Yes. Attendance at all in-person events is mandatory. The confirmed dates for the Academy events include:

    Additionally, you will be required to attend two workshops with Arsenal FC Women, Liverpool FC Women, or the Lionesses in March and April 2025.

    All travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the programme to ensure no financial barriers.

  • Pixel FC Academy is fully funded for all applicants. We will cover all costs related to travel, accommodation, and any other expenses necessary to attend the programme's in-person events. There are no fees for applying or participating.

  • As attendance is mandatory, we recommend reviewing the confirmed dates carefully before applying to ensure you can commit to the entire programme. Missing an event could impact your ability to complete the programme.

  • Upon completing Pixel FC Academy, you’ll have:

    Portfolio of Work: A collection of media content you can showcase, from interviews to social content created during the programme.

  • The Academy is specifically designed for aspiring creators who are not yet fully established in the industry. If you have more than 10,000 followers on any platform, you may not be eligible to apply.
